Qualification Requirements
I. Nanqiang Young Talents Supporting Program: Nanqiang Young Talents are classified into Category A and Category B.
1. PhD candidates with a background in natural sciences, engineering or medicine shall be 40 years of age or younger on January 1 for Category A or 35 years of age or younger for Category B;
2. Category A refers to scholars who conduct cutting-edge research with an outstanding track record;
3. Category B refers to scholars who have distinguished themselves from their peers with outstanding innovation capabilities or potential and who have established themselves as a promising talented scholar in their respective academic fields. Scholars in this category should meet XMU’s qualification requirements for professorships and have the potential to advance to Category A with the period of support.
II. Professorships, Associate Professorships, and Assistant Professorships
1. A doctorate or the highest degree in the relevant field from a prestigious university or research institute;
2. 45 years of age or younger for professorships; 40 years of age or younger for associate professorships; or 35 years of age or younger for assistant professorships;
3. Satisfying all other XMU appointment conditions.
III. Postdoctoral Fellows
1. A doctorate from a prestigious domestic or overseas university or research institute;
2. 35 years of age or younger;
3. Satisfying all other XMU appointment conditions.
Supportive Measures
I. Nanqiang Young Talents Supporting Program (Category A)
Position: Professor & doctoral supervisor
Remuneration: About RMB 500,000 per annum
Subsidies: RMB 2.5 million (for relocation and purchase of housing); RMB 0.50-1 million(support in Fujian Province)
Housing: Newly decorated on-campus temporary apartment plus rental subsidies (RMB 3800 per month among 4 years)
Research Funding: More than RMB 2-3 million
Children Schooling: High-quality educational service from kindergarten to middle school
II. Nanqiang Young Talents Supporting Program (Category B)
Position: Associate professor
Remuneration: RMB 340,000 per annum
Subsidies: RMB 1.0 million (for relocation and purchase of housing); RMB 125,000-500,000 (support in Fujian Province)
Housing: Newly decorated on-campus temp apartment plus rental subsidies
Research Funding: RMB 1.5 million
Children Schooling: High-quality educational service from kindergarten to middle school
III. Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors
Remuneration: Remuneration packages depending on rank and position
Subsidies: Relocation and housing subsidies
Research Funding: Financial support for research startup from the President’s Foundation
Housing: Newly decorated on-campus temp apartment plus rental subsidies; eligible for purchase of Xiamen’s government-subsidized housing for major high-level talent
Children Schooling: High-quality educational service from kindergarten to middle school
IV. Postdoctoral Fellows
Remuneration: RMB 160,000 per annum or higher
Housing: Postdoc apartment or rental subsides
Children Schooling: Same as children of XMU faculty members
Position: Appointment as assistant research fellow or associate research fellow, depending on research performance; outstanding candidates may be included into the Support Program for Distinguished Young Scholars and appointed as research fellows.
