Established in March 2005, the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science (Xiamen University) (MEL) is sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). It was categorized as one of the best state key laboratories in the last two MOST nation-wide reviews (2010 and 2015). MEL is dedicated to cutting-edge research on global change.
Emphasizing theoretical and applied research, and utilizing interdisciplinary approaches and technological innovation, MEL's focus is on marine biogeochemistry and its ecosystem dynamics.
The ultimate goal of MEL is to be an internationally recognized institution in advanced marine environmental research and a platform for fostering talent and academic cooperation.
Vision
The ocean is intimately tied to human life and development. The ocean to the Earth is as water to the mankind. MEL strives to build a world-class ocean science research center, leading in marine biogeochemistry and related fields, with excellent training capabilities, and as an important force in serving the nation's marine strategic needs and the global maritime affairs.
Mission
