COASTAL-SOS, or “Coastal Zones Under Intensifying Human Activities and Changing Climate: A Regional Programme Integrating Science, Management and Society to Support Ocean Sustainability,” is a recently endorsed project under the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) (UN-Decade) (https://www.oceandecade.org/).
Recently, Professor Lu Yonglong, academician of the Academy of Sciences for Developing Countries, the Academy of Europe, and chair professor at Xiamen University, was appointed by the UN Secretary-General as a member of the Ten-Member Group on Technology Facilitation Mechanisms (TFM) for SDGs.
Approved by Xiamen University, the International Project Office (IPO)-China of the Surface Ocean-Lower Atmosphere Study (SOLAS) project was officially launched at the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science (MEL) in January 2021.
