The helpful numerical models: From operational oceanography to coastal lagoons management
Researcher,Institute forMarine andCoastal Environment
National Research Council(IAMC-CNR) -Oristano,Italy
The speech is focused on providing a brief overview on some activities and results obtained in the field of open ocean and coastal oceanography by using an high resolution hydrodynamic finite element model. In the first part some details will be provided about the numerical model and the adopted method, then results about operational oceanography and operational oil spills model will be presented. Finally some applications to lagoon environments which includes computation of basin flushing features and simulation of the first trophic layers of the lagoon ecosystem will be shown and discussed.
Andrea Cucco got his degree and PhD in Environmental Science at the Ca’ Foscari University in Venice (Italy). He has an extensive experience in numerical modeling and physical oceanography particularly focused on the development and and application of high resolution hydrodynamic models based on unstructured grids. His field of research includes the main physical processes occurring in coastal areas, such as storm surges and wind waves propagation, water circulation and flushing features in lagoons and coastal seas and sediment transport.
