Short CV of Prof. Jan Lunqvist
Jan Lundqvisthas a PhD in Human Geography, University of Gothenburg (1975). Professor at the Department of Water and Environmental Studies, Linköping University (1980 – 2009). He has been Senior lecturer and “dosent” (research professor) at Universities of Bergen and Oslo, Norway (1973 – 1980). He spent two years in Tanzania doing field work for his PhD (1970-1972). He is a member of Royal Academy of Agriculture and Forestry, Sweden (from 1987). Currently, he is senior scientific advisor at Stockholm International Water Institute and chair of the Scientific Programme Committee. He has been supervisor of a large number of PhD candidates. His key responsibilities have included formulation and implementation of research projects and consultancies on water resources issues, including water and climate, water for food security, river basin dynamics, water and environmental interdependencies and the role of water in development. As senior scientific advisor, his duties are to strengthen the links between research/knowledge and policy. Current research attempts to analyse water resources fluxes and management challenges in a systems perspective; food chain dynamics, interdependence between terrestrial systems and coastal zone and climate variability and unpredictability. His research and other activities have been performed in Africa, South Asia, South East Asia, Middle East and Scandinavia. Another important task is to document the result of research. Thus, he has published widely about water resources management and policy for socioeconomic development in global and regional contexts. Interviews in leading media: BBC, CNBC, Canadian TV, Financial Times, Xiamen TV and Scandinavian media.
