l Environmental studies to clarify the dynamics of introduced marine organisms, especially macroalgae and barnacles, associated with international ship operations (ballast tank/ship hull communities)

l Molecular phylogeny and genomics of the Heterokonts and brown algae [Ectocarpusfull genome sequencing research project, Heterokont Tree of Life project, etc.]

l Monitoring and restoration of coastal ecosystems using seaweeds

l Phylogeography of marine macroalgae
