Second Meeting Announcement

October 13th-19th 2019

Xiamen University

Xiamen, China

This meeting will cover all IGCP-related science (sea level, earthquakes, coastal inundation)

Abstract deadline: June 15th 2019

 

Meeting Schedule

Sunday October 13th - Arrive Xiamen. Welcome reception

Monday October 14th to Tuesday 15th - Oral and poster presentations

Wednesday October 16th to Friday 18th - Field trips

Saturday October 19th - Potential half-day subsidence workshop and depart Xiamen

 

The 3-day field trip will encompass sites that span the breadth of Project 639 science topics including submerged terrestrial landscapes, reclaimed land, aquaculture, and geoarchaeology in the context of coastal settlement and sea-level changes. Best estimate of registration fee is $700 USD covering all accommodation (double occupancy) and lunches during the conference and field trip and all but two evening meal. A single occupancy option will be available for $950 USD. Fees to use a credit card to pay the registration fee are 3.5% for overseas credit cards and 0.6% for Chinese credit cards.

Additional field trips will be available after the conference for those wishing to stay longer in China. 

  

Abstracts

The submission deadline for abstracts is June 15th 2019

Abstracts should be submitted to igcp639@xmu.edu.cn with a copy to engelhart@uri.edu

Abstracts are limited to one page using Times New Roman 12 pt font single spaced, and including all author details, affiliations etc.               

 

Registration

Registration prices listed on the first page include:

Pickup/drop off at airport/train station, accommodation for conference and fieldtrip, ice breaker on the 13th, lunch and tea breaks on 14th/15th, and lunch and dinner on the fieldtrips (16th-18th)

 

Hotels

Accommodation for the 13th-15th is at the conference venue, the Millennium Hotel. Accommodation on the fieldtrip for the 16th is at the Pingtan Hotel and for the 17th-18th at the Putian International Hotel

 

Travel Support

Travel support is limited to Early Career Researchers (ECR), researchers from developing nations (as defined by UNESCO), and scientists from underrepresented groups, per our funding requirements from IGCP/INQUA

Decisions on travel support will be circulated in July

Visa Requirements

Visas for China need to be obtained prior to travel. Please apply for an F (non-business) or L (tourism) visa from your nearest Embassy or Consulate. Early application is highly recommended. Please contact us for further information. You will need a passport valid for at least 6 months to apply. Citizens of Singapore, Brunei, and Japan holding ordinary passports may enter China without a visa if stay is less than 15 days

Topic: Tectonic and weathering controls on coastal granitic terrain

Hiking at the UNESCO's Global Geopark Network "Ningde Global Geopark (Taimu Mountain)": geology and geomorphology of the granitic mountainous landforms

Stop 1: Stone waterfall: Landforms shaped by flowing water

Stop 2: Hulu Cave: Typical gravitational collapse of a granitic landform, 1km long

Optional Stop 2: Sea watching walkway: Typical granitic landforms with a coastal view

Stop 3: Wulonggang: Weathering and collapsed granitic landforms

 

19th October 2019

Departure to Xiamen by high-speed train in the morning

Optional half-day workshop at Xiamen University, Xiang’an campus and departure to Xiamen airport in the evening.

The Department of Geological Oceanography (DGO) of Xiamen University is hosting the UNESCO-IUGS-IGCP project 639: "Sea Level Change from Minutes to Millennia" 4th annual meeting. The meeting is going to be held at the Millennium Hotel, Xiamen on October 13th-19th 2019, with the overarching theme of Sea-level Changes over Timescales from Minutes to Millennia.
